I Apologize for Not Being Around Lately

Hi, everyone. I apologize for not being around lately. At the end of Nov I had an unexpected trip to the ER & an overnight. I’ve been dealing with something for years. I’ve had several appointments of late. Hopefully, we’re getting closer to figuring out what to do. I’m on different meds for now. We’re trying to avoid an operation. My husband has his own struggles. Not going into detail, as, we feel health is private. I just mentioned this, as, it’s the main reason I’ve been away for awhile.

I’m still continuing to volunteer at the local shelter with the kitties. It will be two years in July. Though, sometimes due to health, I need to curtail it. I still have my rescue & rehome (started Feb 2017) & lost/found (started Oct 2017) groups. A few weeks ago I took over a pet rescue page & a foster/adopt group. Even when I’m not on here, I’m involved with things pertaining to animals.

One being, collaborating on books. All of them will have animals. Either only or they include people. I’ve been writing stories since I learned how to write. I’ve always had the talent & ideas. A few times, I thought I was ready to pursue it as a career, not, just a hobby. It never took. Until a couple of years ago when I started volunteering at the shelter. That’s where my determination & inspiration came in. I published my first book three weeks ago. It will be part of a series. It’s 60 pages & is for all ages. It’s a cozy animal fantasy adventure. Please do check it out & share. Thanks. https://goo.gl/778ouE

I Apologize About the Ads

Hi, everyone. Hope that you all had a good Thanksgiving. I paid for a membership that would not include ads. I also don’t use any ad revenue programs to earn from. Not on this blog, anyway. Either they changed the membership & ads are now a part of it or something else happened. If anyone has any ideas, I’d appreciate it. I only want ads, if, I choose them. Which I didn’t.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Image may contain: dog, cat and text

I was at the shelter last, Fri, 10 to noon. That being my usual day & time to volunteer. Of the kitties that are currently available for adoption, we have one four year old & another that might be that age or a little older. Neither are seniors. As for the dogs, I don’t think we have any in that age range either.

Since cats can often live longer than dogs, especially if they’re indoor only, senior often starts for them at past 10. For many dogs, that age is their upper limit. So, being a senior for them is considered what the last 25% of their life is.

We have two senior kitties. Both 11. Though, the way they run around, chase & wrestle each other, you’d never know it. Do you have or have you had an older animal companion?

For My Fellow Californians Affected by the Fires

Hi, I don’t know how many of you on here are from CA & if there are any, if you’re in one of the affected areas. Those who aren’t from CA, many have friends and/or family who are or you have read about the fires. Do let me know you’re safe.

Ron (my husband) & I live about 10 miles south of Redwood Valley. That’s where one of the fires is located. Fortunately, we didn’t have to evacuate. We just saw & smelled the smoke. The air was thick with it. Some days the quality was in the dangerous zone.

For those that live around there, I’m sure you know, Coffey Park (Santa Rosa) was leveled. My aunt & uncle had lived on Espresso for 30+ years. My aunt passed a few years ago. My uncle recently moved to Monte Rio with his new wife. Which is good, because, he lost everything, but, thankfully not his life.

Missing Tortie (Stephanie) in Vallejo, CA

Stephanie

This was posted by Tracey Harper at the Solano/Napa County – Pet Detectives Facebook group. They’ve been missing for a couple of months.

Lost cat. 😦
My sweet Stephanie is missing. She is a 7yo tortoise shell, spayed but not chipped.

We live off of Taylor near Warren.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! ❤

Schutzhund (Hank) Taken in Rancho Cordova, CA

Hank

The following was posted by Nikkie Angell on behalf of Diane Butler at the Lost & Found Pets……..Northern California! Facebook group: Today a good friend of mine had his Schutzhund 3 dog, Hank taken. Hank was my dog 4 years ago so I have some skin in this too. Hank, wandered away not very far from his office/warehouse. Apparently a fellow in a Yellow pickup coaxed Hank into his car and drove away. Just so happened an employee of my friend saw Hank sitting in this guys front seat as he drove by within a block or 2 of the office. My friend called the local Police in Rancho Cordova, CA and reported it. Cops came and took report. Although some what vague with info the cops told us that the fellow who found Hank took him to the Sacramento animal Shelter on Bradshaw Rd. The fellow told the cops that the shelter was closed when he got there so he couldn’t drop Hank off. Instead, he said that he met a woman and her teenage daughter there in the parking lot (of Animal Control). They had come to the shelter hoping to adopt a dog. According to this fellow who found Hank, he gave Hank to the woman and daughter and they drove away with Hank. He neglected to get their names or any contact information. The Police looked at camera video at Animal control and sure enough the story checked out. Unfortunately the camera did not catch the lic number to their vehicle. We were just told that it may have been a blue and white truck or SUV type. That is not confirmed yet but its all we have so far. The handling officer will not answer my friends calls. He last told him that they were now only handling this as a missing dog. Animal Control said they were not able to assist because the dog was never actually turned in to them. The exchange happened in the parking lot.

As you all can imagine my friend and his family are worried sick about this. My friend was totally dreading having to go home and explain to his young daughters who adore and sleep with Hank every night. I would really appreciate it if everyone who reads this will share on Facebook. We hope it could reach someone who will be able to help. When and if I get more information describing the woman and daughter and her vehicle, I will ad to this post. Hank is a very large dark sable dog. He is 8 years old. Im new to FB so I don’t know exactly how this works but several people told us to tell the story on social media. I will try my skills at including a few photos that I have of him. Thank you in advance.

National Clear the Shelter Day–Aug 19, 2017

NBC and Telemundo owned stations are teaming up with hundreds of shelters across the country to host Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday, August 19 to help find loving homes for animals in need. Over 50,000 pets found their forever homes in 2016. The shelter I volunteer at will be participating in this. As seen by the graphic below. What about ones in your area? Do they have something similar in other countries. Go to, Clear the Shelters, to learn more.

Dog Days of Summer

One of those sayings people are familiar with. What does it mean & what is it’s origin? Historically this was the period following the heliacal rising of the star Sirius, which Greek & Roman mythology connected with drought, heat, sudden thunderstorms, fever, lethargy, bad luck & mad dogs. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

Last week was the second (at least here) of the summer that was 100 or more for a week. I prefer temps to be no more than 85. Above that, it starts to get uncomfortable for me. We live inland, so, it tends to get hotter from mid May to Mid Sept. Growing up, I lived in a town that was a little closer to the ocean. It was more pleasant during the summer. I, for one, don’t care for the Dog Days of Summer. How about you?
