I Apologize for Not Being Around Lately

Hi, everyone. I apologize for not being around lately. At the end of Nov I had an unexpected trip to the ER & an overnight. I’ve been dealing with something for years. I’ve had several appointments of late. Hopefully, we’re getting closer to figuring out what to do. I’m on different meds for now. We’re trying to avoid an operation. My husband has his own struggles. Not going into detail, as, we feel health is private. I just mentioned this, as, it’s the main reason I’ve been away for awhile.

I’m still continuing to volunteer at the local shelter with the kitties. It will be two years in July. Though, sometimes due to health, I need to curtail it. I still have my rescue & rehome (started Feb 2017) & lost/found (started Oct 2017) groups. A few weeks ago I took over a pet rescue page & a foster/adopt group. Even when I’m not on here, I’m involved with things pertaining to animals.

One being, collaborating on books. All of them will have animals. Either only or they include people. I’ve been writing stories since I learned how to write. I’ve always had the talent & ideas. A few times, I thought I was ready to pursue it as a career, not, just a hobby. It never took. Until a couple of years ago when I started volunteering at the shelter. That’s where my determination & inspiration came in. I published my first book three weeks ago. It will be part of a series. It’s 60 pages & is for all ages. It’s a cozy animal fantasy adventure. Please do check it out & share. Thanks. https://goo.gl/778ouE

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Image may contain: dog, cat and text

I was at the shelter last, Fri, 10 to noon. That being my usual day & time to volunteer. Of the kitties that are currently available for adoption, we have one four year old & another that might be that age or a little older. Neither are seniors. As for the dogs, I don’t think we have any in that age range either.

Since cats can often live longer than dogs, especially if they’re indoor only, senior often starts for them at past 10. For many dogs, that age is their upper limit. So, being a senior for them is considered what the last 25% of their life is.

We have two senior kitties. Both 11. Though, the way they run around, chase & wrestle each other, you’d never know it. Do you have or have you had an older animal companion?

National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day–May 8

One important thing is to stock a pet first aid kit. Which would include: an assortment of bandages, pads and rolls of gauze, tweezers (for removing splinters, debris from eyes, etc.), pet thermometer, bottled water (enough for 5-7 days). Rescue & Rehome in 707

animals2

I started that on Facebook. This group is for those who have saved an animal & are temporarily fostering them, until, they can find a forever family & for those whose circumstances have changed & they need to find a good place for their furbabies. The idea is to keep all of these out of the shelter, if possible. 707 incorporates the counties of Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte. Though it’s usually cats & dogs, if you have information about birds, fish, reptiles, rodents & those usually considered livestock that could also be a pet, such as, horses, donkeys, llamas, pigs, goats, etc, you’re welcome to post about them as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/rescueandrehomein707/

Keeping Your Pets Safe on Guy Fawkes Day (Nov 5)

This is primarily for my British friends & readers. Though, it can also pertain to others who are currently living in England. Today is Guy Fawkes Day. You may read about it by going to, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night. Since fireworks & bonfires usually take place at night, it is probably going on as I type this. Please remember to keep your cats, dogs & other pets safely inside, as, what might be a celebration for humans, can be upsetting loud noises for our animal companions. Thanks for being mindful of this.

One Step for Animals

One Step for Animals is an organization located in Tucson, AZ. Following is part of what’s on their About Me. To learn more, please go to the link below. We aren’t trying to promote a particular philosophy, worldview, diet, or lifestyle. Our bottom line is not how many people we can convince to think exactly like we do, but how many fewer animals are suffering and dying.

Nearly everyone opposes cruelty to animals and is sickened when they see animals being brutalized. If we can reach out to everyone where they are and get them to take just one meaningful step to help animals – instead of insisting or implying they must adopt our preferred worldview and lifestyle – we will be able to save many more animals from the horrors of factory farms and slaughterhouses.

We know from experience – and basic psychology – that people tend to evolve slowly over time, with change occurring step by step. If approached positively and constructively, nearly everyone would help animals. Rather than seeing one step as simply “a good start” toward some ideal, we recognize every single compassionate step is, in and of itself, a genuine advance, a true victory to be celebrated. http://www.onestepforanimals.org/

Why Aren’t There More Animal Movies?

I was talking with my husband that there don’t seem to be that many films about animals. Live action or animated. Maybe studios don’t think they’d do that well. Even though there are many animal lovers. It doesn’t even have to be mammals. There are fish, birds & reptiles as well. When you care about the welfare & well being, it goes beyond domesticated pets. It’s for those on farms, in jungles, deserts, the arctic, oceans, etc. Of course, there are many people that have animal companions. Primarily cats & dogs. It’s surprising there aren’t more movies about those, at least. I believe people would be interested. I know my husband & I would go to them. We haven’t seen, Secret Life of Pets yet, but, we’re both fans of animation. I’m sure that will be in our collection. One of my favorite films featuring animals is, Babe. Which ones do you like?

Feeding Pets of the Homeless

Homelessness is another cause that I’m passionate about. If there are any in your area, as there are here, you probably have seen some with dogs, a few with cats. I’m thankful for organizations like this. They’re in Carson City, NV. I’ll have to check if there’s any places like this in NorCal.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human/animal bond which is very important in the lives of many homeless. They find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. Our task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets. The Gentle Barn

Founded by Ellie Laks in 1999 in Tarzana, CA. Animals were always very healing and nurturing to her as she faced the challenges of growing up, finding herself, fitting in, feeling understood, etc. She majored in special education and psychology, and with her special love of animals and children, The Gentle Barn was a perfect way of putting all her talents and passions into one.

Jay Weiner joined The Gentle Barn in 2002 as a volunteer, but fell in love with the place and the two joined forces to heal even more children and animals. Like Ellie, Jay also turned to animals for the support, love and nurturing he needed as a child.

The Gentle Barn started on a half-acre property in the middle of the San Fernando Valley, CA. In 2003 Ellie and Jay moved to a six-acre paradise in Santa Clarita, CA. They are home to horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, llamas, dogs, and more. They believe that everyone deserves a chance at life, regardless if they are blind, crippled, deformed, sick, wounded, or just old. To learn more about this wonderful organization, please go here: The Gentle Barn The donkey in the pic is Addison & the goat is Bluebell. Like other animals there, they are available for monthly sponsorship.

Please do Reblog and Share–Especially About the Lost/Found and Those Needing Fostering/Adopting Animals

Hi, everyone. I already mentioned this in the post on, What This Blog is About. I wanted to reiterate it here. Even if you’re not from the area that the lost/found animal is or ones who are needing fostering/adopting, it’s still appreciated that you reblog & share. Because your readers, family, friends, the community at large may just be. The more people we’re able to reach, the sooner these companions are reunited with their people or find their forever home. Thanks from the bottom of my pawprinted heart 🙂
